Two camp opportunities this summer for families with dwarfism in the northeast, (plus the LPA national conference July 2-6.)
- Camp Come As You Are (CAYA) August 5-7
- Harbor Camps August 7-13
CAYA is our weekend camp experience for New England families with dwarf children, teens, and siblings and parents of all sizes at Camp Allen, in Bedford, New Hampshire. Families get to know each other by playing, eating and bunking together. CAYA is designed for families with school-aged kids, but younger families are welcome as well. First-timers can also just come for the day Saturday. CAYA offers a nightly campfire, playground, swimming pool, indoor games, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, basketball, kickball, gaga, biking, talent show, water balloons, whiffle ball and a camp store full of fun stuff. There are some pictures of prior camp years here (scroll down) and http://www.lpadistrictone.org/camp-caya.html. Curious families can contact me to join a private Facebook group and feel free to contact me with questions, rickerruth@aol.com.
Harbor Camps will offer the first sleep-away camp in the northeast for kids with dwarfism, and their siblings (as well as average height kids who have dwarf parents.) Harbor Camps will run a bus directly from CAYA to Harbor Camps for families whose kids are doing both. Harbor Camps is also looking for people from the LPA community who'd like to be counselors. You can contact Nick the director and see photos of this beautiful camp through the website. http://www.harborcamps.org/skeletal-dysplasia-camp

Camp CAYA 2014
Camp
this year is Friday afternoon July 25 to Sunday morning July 27, base
cost is still $35 per night/per person over 5 yrs old, meals included.
Parents/guardians, please consider filling out the Camp CAYA Community
Needs Assessment - aka the ten questions I could get free from Survey
Monkey!https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/S7T5P3P
(FYI, the personal development option in #5, would be a session led
by a skilled facilitator.) Deadline Feb 28th. Thanks!
For what it's worth, the
fundraising/subsidy questions are in the
context of we typically have subsidized costs for families in New
England, and esp for Dist 1 families unable to come or bring the rest of
the sibs/family otherwise.
We LOVE having families from outside New
England but aren't in a position to help subsidize their costs at this
time.
The activities are geared towards school-aged kids, but we're
laid back, so families with younger kids are welcome too, something to
consider if you have a young LP but with older sibs.
We do sleep in
large cabins all together, but there's a few nooks and crannies where a
nuclear family would have more privacy/quiet, first come, first serve.
Registration forms will be out soon. Email rickerruth@aol.com for more info.
